It is your job to complete missions and battle against the other soldiers to be rewarded with promotions, money and medals to prove you are the strongest soldier there is.

Square-Enix, after the release of Dirge Of Cerberus in Japan, has Launched the Online Play feature for Dirge Of Cerberus. Running on Square-Enix's BBunit, used on Final Fantasy XI Online, Dirge Of Cerberus's Online Play is one of the most fun parts of the game itself. Although, Square-Enix has placed a monthly fee on the Dirge Of Cerberus unfournately. Which would make the Online Play quite useless to me and as well as to most. The gameplay being similar to the single player mode, which is the main game, the Online Play is different than the Main game, some features have been removed, such as the ability of Limit Break and Claw-Melee movements.

When starting the game, you are taken to the player Lobby, from there you can meet and chat with other players, recieve missions, and even check Worldwide player rankings and buy Items and shop. In the lobby, you can battle with other players, there are two separate deathmatch modes, the first is the Solo battle, where each player is in a free-for all mode, in the given time limit, you have to eliminate, or kill, as many opposing players. The second, is a Team-Battle, where you have between 20-30 teamates, and a given time limit to destory as many of the enemy team's players. Of course, there are various different locations, where if you complete certain requirements, you then win. As all games that are MMO, you require some specs for your PC to run Dirge Of Cerberus Online play.

Previously annouced, the Dirge Of Cerberus Online Play was canceled for the North American and European markets, becaus the less demand to use Playonline service. As the subsitute, the Game for the North American and European markets were altered in the number of missions for the game, changes were also made.
