Blitzball is the sport of Final Fantasy X; as most of the story has a centralized theme around Blitzball. The sport of Blitzball can be played as a minigame during your playthrough of Final Fantasy X. Blitzball is played in a sphere dome contianing water. It has essentially the same rules as Football and American Football combined. The goal is to get as many goals as possible and to have more than the opposing team. All the while running through your opposing team members. The minigame mechanics are however not like a sports game; the Blitzball minigame plays like a strategic game. All team members have HP, and to pass, throw, score or use abilites requires HP. Like a game, there is a time limit for any Blitzball match. However you cannot start playing Blitzball until after the final tournament that Wakka takes part of. From then on you can access and play Blitzball from any Save Sphere (Save Point).

When you start playing Blitzball independently from the story, you can also start developing your Blitzball team. Your team first starts off as every one of the Besaid Aurochs, as well as Tidus. During the playthrough of Final Fantasy X, you can start developing your Blitzball team by recruiting different team members. There are many Blitzball players across Spira and you can recruit about any of them, even those on different teams if they allow. To Recruit a character for Blitzball, Go next to any character and press the button [SQUARE], if they are a Blitzball player, then you can recruit them. The Blitzball positions are: Left Forward, Right Foward, Midfielder, Right Defense, Left Defense and Goalie. You should make sure that Goalies are high in the Catch Stat. Make sure that all of your characters are good for their position as well.
